What Are You Afraid Of?

 One summer night during a severe thunderstorm a mother was tucking her  small son into bed. She was about to turn the light off when he asked in a  trembling voice, "Mommy, will you stay with me all night?" Smiling, the  mother gave him a warm, reassuring hug and said tenderly, “I can't dear. I  have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long‘ silence followed. At last it was  broken by a shaky voice saying, "The big sissy!"**

What are you afraid of? Chances are the things you're afraid of are  different than the things I'm afraid of. Fear is a funny thing-sometimes  the fears are rational, and sometimes they are irrational. Is your fear  spiders, the dark, snakes, or heights? Or, maybe it's losing your job, getting  terminally ill, losing your mobility, or forgetting that important  appointment. Whatever your fear, chances are you've never been without  fear - fear just changes over time. Adults have fears like kids have fears.

How do you get over fear? Psychologists have all sorts of tricks and  strategies that they recommend to face your fears, and many of them  work. What does God offer to help us face our fears? This morning we'll  look at the story of a man who radically faced his fear, and what motivated  him to do it. Today begins a mini series entitled, "Because of Jesus...3  Changed Lives", that will lead us up through the Easter weekend. l hope  you'll join us these next three weeks as we walk through Jesus’ final hours,  and how, even in death, his life changed lives forever.
