"Why Do You Worry?" - 18m:26s
Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
What Are You Worried About?
When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
—Psalm 94:19
Are you worried about something? There's almost always something to worry about—family, car problems, money, job, house, broken relationships...the list goes on and on. l love this verse, because it has spoken to me at different points of my life when l have been overwhelmed with things l am worried about. I am constantly reminded in my worry, however, that the God of the universe still reigns. At the end of the day, He is still in control.
The difficulty, of course, is getting my heart to feel what my head already knows. I particularly like how this verse speaks of God's willingness to console us in our worry. Have you ever thought that God wants to comfort us in our anxiety? God's desire is that we don't worry, but when we do, he wants to cheer us, to console us. Next time you allow life to worry you, bring it to God. Ask him for comfort. So often, we run to other things for help when we worry—friends, spouse, parents, addictive behaviors. Maybe if we ran to God first, we would find the peace we so desperately seek.
