"Day of Prayer and Giving for Children" - 13m:01s
Scripture Reading: Mark 10:13-16
Children Are...
...“A small child is someone who can wash, his hands without getting the soap wet.”
...“The trouble with children is that when they're not being a lump in your throat, they're being a pain in your neck.”
...“Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.”
...“A child is a person who can't understand why someone would give away a perfectly good kitten.”
——D0ug Larson
I’m sure at different times and places, if you’re a parent, you can relate to some of the above one-liners. Yet, children are one of the most precious gifts we experience this side of heaven. Their ability to make us smile and laugh (sometimes at ourselves), and the incredible energy and zest for life they possess inspire us to do better. As parents, we are driven to provide for and help these little ones grow into the people we desire them to be—- we want to give them the best shot they can get in making it in this world.
Unfortunately, not all of the children in the world are given the chances they should. Because they are mostly helpless, they often fall victim to the poor decisions of the adults around them. Poverty, drugs, disease, and other scenarios have a devastating effect on children. Jesus said, “whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6) Harsh words for a grave sin.
This morning, we want to highlight a special morning of prayer and giving for the children, speci?cally a ministry called Potter Children’s Home. Potter’s began as a children’s home for orphans in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1914. They are over 100 years old. They serve children through in-house foster care, adoption, counseling services, and housing and ?nancial support for single moms getting back on their feet. The Woods?eld Church of Christ supports this ministry monthly, but there is a box in the foyer for special donations to this ministry as we dedicate today for a special day of prayer and giving for the children. We hope that, whether you give to this ministry directly or not, you’1l spend today and the following days focusing your prayers on all the children in our world in need.
Along with this, we are having a 30 Day Prayer for Children Challenge.
