"Setting Our Mind on the Spirit" - 29m:22s
Series: Reset: Life In the SpiritScripture Reading: Romans 8:1-6
Set your mind on the Spirit…
There’s a well known VBS song that I grew up singing. It goes something like this:
“O be careful little eyes what you see
O be careful little eyes what you see
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little eyes what you see.”
2nd: O be careful little ears what you hear…
3rd: O be careful little hands what you do…
4th: O be careful little feet where you go….
5th: O be careful little mouth what you say….
The point of the entire song is, of course, to teach children that it’s important to watch what you see, hear, do, and say. As adults, we know this is true because by now, we’ve seen the effects of not paying attention to all these things. Heartbreak, disappointment, and regret await when we’re not “careful little _______ what we _______.”
If we were singing that song as adults, however, I’d probably add another verse: “O be careful little mind what you think…” It is in the mind that most of the other problems start. It is in the mind where we allow our fleshly nature to win the battle that eventually is manifested in what we see, what we hear, what we do, where we go, and what we say.
This morning, we continue our series “Reset: Life in the Spirit” with a lesson on setting our mind on the Spirit. Why is it so important that we do this, and how can we start?
