Captivated
Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:6-15
What Captivates You?
In Colossians 2:8, Paul warns his readers not to be taken captive by philosophy and hollow teaching. We’ll talk more about this in our lesson, but it led me to think about the question in the bulletin article’s title: “What captivates you?” All of us have something that captures our attention or imagination. Maybe it’s a particular interest we have, our children or grandchildren, our spouse, or our job. Whatever it may be, whenever “it” comes up, all our energy and attention get diverted in that direction. We spend hours of time on it or them, because we have been captivated—our hearts are in it.
Does God captivate you? Does your relationship with your Lord capture your attention or imagination? Or, is it something you know is right and will get you to heaven, so you participate, but don’t have any real interest beyond what’s required of you. There’s a difference between seeing something as a joy and seeing something as a job. What captivates you?
