If...Then
Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-17
How’s Your Math??
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.—Col. 3:1-3
I know, it’s summer and you don’t want to think about school, let alone math, but hang with me a sec. Do remember “if-then” statements? “If a=b then b=c, because a=c.” Obviously, these types of problems can become more complicated, but the basic principle remains the same. Using bits of known information, a conclusion can be made about the unknown. In this verse, Paul is using an “if-then” statement. Check it out: IF you have been raised with Christ, THEN seek heavenly things, BECAUSE you have died and your life is hidden with Christ. Seeking heavenly things follows the other two statements—it only makes sense that we follow Christ if we have been raised with Him. So, how’s your math? Are you living out the logical conclusion of your life? Are you seeking things above? If you have claimed Christianity, you should be!
