Forgiveness and Healing
Karl Menninger, the famed psychiatrist, once said that if he could convince the patients in psychiatric hospitals that their sins were forgiven, 75 percent of them could walk out the next day!*
Many pages have been written on the connections between our ability to forgive/be forgiven, and our physical health. As Christians this should not surprise us. We believe man to be a spiritual being, and so it makes sense that something spiritual such as forgiveness would be so closely connected with our physical wellbeing. This reality is explored in the story of the paralytic brought to Jesus by his friends in Mark 2. Jesus is teaching in Capernaum, one of the major cities of Jesus’ ministry, when a few men bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus in an unusual manner. What Jesus says to them is equally shocking. Join us this morning as we discuss what it means to be forgiven, and what it means to be healed.
