Series: The Gospel of MarkA Big Thank You!
Abby and I would like to relay our gratitude to you all for so many who have called, texted, messaged, or otherwise checked in while we have been down this past week. It has been so encouraging to see so many of you jump in and offer to help. We are truly blessed. We were fortunate that our symptoms have been mostly mild so far, so no big helps have been needed, but it was comforting knowing we had so many to ask if we needed anything.
Times like these remind me of why Scripture talks about God’s people as being a family. The words “brother” and “sister” are not just used as titles or addresses, it is literally who we are. When we decided to follow God and become a disciple, we were adopted into His family (Rom. 8:15; Gal. 4:4-5) and given certain privileges that are only given to family members. Some of those privileges are the care and concern for one another when we are in need. I love what Paul says in Galatians 6:10— “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” The “household of faith” is the family of God.
I’m sensitive to the fact that, as a minister, my family and I probably get more attention in these types of situations than the average member. While we are grateful for all the offers of help, I would ask that we share the same level of concern for everyone in our family. No one person should be placed over another, and all should receive offers of help when in need. Let us “do good” for all, especially those in our own house. We thank you, love you and are looking forward to being back with you soon!
