Series: The Gospel of MarkResurrection
A couple weeks ago we were celebrating Easter weekend, the weekend of Jesus’ resurrection. Today, we’re looking at Jesus’ discussion with the religious leaders on resurrection. It’s fitting to be able to discuss this section so soon after Easter.
My own ideas about resurrection have taken on a sense of urgency since my dad’s passing. Those of you who have lost a loved one too soon can probably relate. I was just reflecting the other day on people I know who are going through some hard things. My mind drifted to the resurrection—Christ’s resurrection and our eventual resurrection. I then thought, “This is why I believe in it. Things HAVE to get better.” Paul says in I Corinthians 15:19—“If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.” He will also say in that same chapter that Christ’s resurrection is quite literally the foundation for the entire Christian faith—without it there is nothing! (15:14)
So yes, it has to get better. Sometimes, life seems hopeless: tragedies, divorce, wayward children, job loss, etc. The message of the gospel is it will get better! We don’t have to despair because we know that one day it will—we will—be changed! I look forward to this day more and more. Don’t stop yet…each day we’re getting closer.
